Before you say why did they build houses next to the ocean? They didn’t. When those homes were built the ocean was hundreds of yards away. People have been fighting desperately with the NC government for beach nourishment for decades. The problem is pseudo environmental groups that block protection so that people’s homes and businesses are destroyed. Then rich Yankees and chain stores buy everything up cheap and then and only then does the law suddenly change but only for their properties.
This is agenda 21 backed by Blackrock. Of course the government is shut down because Liberals cant spend more money on themselves and both parties have wasted hundreds of billions on Ukraine and Israel.
The beach erosion is not natural. The NPS burned vegetation that held sand together and would stop wind erosion. The US coast guard took dump trucks full of sand and removed them from the beach to fill in a swamp to build a naval base that then became a coast guard base that they no longer even use. And it is leaking oil into the soil.
For decades people have beaten their heads against the wall trying to get protection. The Dare County Commission is comprised of people who own hotels and rental properties 42 miles away on the other side of the bridge that only benefits from destroying their competition further south.
This disaster is happening from a hurricane that is 200 miles off shore. If a hurricane actually hits this year, the island would be cut in half. It will not exist and many will die.
People like me from Hatteras island are banned on social media. They don’t know what to do or who to talk to. The government is now saying aid will come in April. Why wait so many months? Environmental permits. But that is not really why. 6 of the 7 commissioners live north of the bridge.
Ocracoke island as I write this is shut down no one on or off.
This is going to clear a billion dollars in damage. NC is the only state on the east coast that doesn’t allow harden structures. It has no breakwaters, it has no jetties just three broken ones since 1973., no reef balls, no geo tubes. They would rather wash away and lose many billions in tourist revenue.
Now imagine that Hatteras Island is wiped out by the hurricane and FEMA allocates a massive chunk of any federal funds to those commissioners who live 42 miles away from the beach. Now imagine Blackrock comes in and buys that destroyed beachfront property… from those same commissioners. (Eminent domain, don’t ya know.) Last week was the 1-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene hitting Western North Carolina. We’re the blueprint for what’s gonna happen to y’all.
That right there is your climate change
