Trump vs Iran two ceasefire claims
Trump version
Trump announces that a Memorandum of Understanding with Iran has been ‘largely negotiated’
He says that final details of the deal are currently being discussed, and they will be announced shortly.
Ali Hashem, Al-Jazeera’s correspondent in Iran, on the details of the final MoU draft.
– End of regional war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
– Freeing several billions of dollars of Iran's frozen assets.
– Lifting the U.S. naval blockade.
– Opening the Strait of Hormuz under ‘Iranian management’ (unclear if there will be tolls)
– Withdrawal of the majority of American forces from the Middle East.
After this, the two sides will have 30 days to find an agreement on the nuclear issue, but this timeframe can be extended if mutually agreed.
Problem is will Israel comply? They are already bombing Gaza.
Iran version
Trump's claim about the Strait of Hormuz returning to its previous state is not true
🔹According to Fars News Agency; contrary to Donald Trump's recent claim on the social network "Truth Social" that the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous status and preparations are underway to sign an agreement, Fars reporter's follow-ups show that this claim is also far from reality.
🔹Based on the latest exchanged text, if a possible agreement is reached, the Strait of Hormuz will still be under Iran's management.
🔹Although Iran has agreed to allow the number of passing ships to return to the level before the war, this does not at all mean "free passage" to the pre-war situation.
🔹Accordingly, the management of the strait, determining the route, time, manner of passage, and issuing permits will remain exclusively under the control and discretion of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Therefore, Trump's claim in this regard is incomplete and does not correspond to reality.
🔹It is worth mentioning that Trump had previously announced negotiations about Iran's nuclear program as one of the main and inseparable conditions of any agreement. However, no commitment has been made by Iran, and the nuclear issue has not been discussed at this stage.
🔹It is noted that American officials have admitted in multiple messages to Iran that Trump's tweets are mostly for promotional and media consumption purposes within the United States and have advised not to pay attention to these statements.
Nothing in writing yet. We have seen false promises from Trump before. But after failing in China and the Gulf Arabs begging him to stop, could he really take the 30 day pause? We just don’t know. We can see Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham tweeting so viciously they could break a nail. I’m sure the to of them could go get manicures.
