If the US's primary concern was the petro-dollar they never would have put sanctions on Iran in the first place and would have just bought oil from them in dollars. That would have been in the national interest.

They put sanctions on Iran because of ISRAEL.

Iraq likewise was happy trading in dollars too until after Gulf War 1 and the oil for food program.

That war as well as Gulf War 2 was started over ISRAELI interest. I have been over it a thousand times. Each pre-war lie was written by Neoconservative Jews not oil companies.

This war with Iran was started FOUR times by ISRAEL. That is why it is called True Promise four.

Backing ISIS in Syria served no US strategic interest. It was done for Israel and resulted in terrorist attacks in Europe.

Libya likewise was no threat to the United State but was listed by Netanyahu for regime change. He went over this script in 2002.

Quit blame shifting away from Israel to bullshit about oil or petro-dollars or the “MIC”. Iran hasn't been selling oil in dollars since 2006. They were already off the dollar. Selling in Yuan and Yen today is no different than how it was anyway.
